Is your organisation committed to making activities inclusive for disabled young people? The Inclusive Activities Award is now open for applications, offering clubs, groups and activity providers the opportunity to develop their inclusive practice and a public endorsement of their commitment to inclusion.

Developed in partnership by Active Gloucestershire and Active Impact, the Award supports and recognises Gloucestershire based providers who are taking meaningful steps to ensure disabled children and young people can access and participate in their activities alongside their non-disabled peers.

This isn’t just an award, it’s a developmental framework that helps you strengthen your inclusive approach and demonstrate your organisation’s values to your community, funders and partners.

What is the Inclusive Activities Award?

The Inclusive Activities Award is a recognition for clubs and groups in Gloucestershire that are committed to inclusion. It has been created to:

  • Support providers in developing and embedding inclusive practices
  • Recognise organisations that welcome disabled and non-disabled children and young people up to age 25
  • Encourage ongoing reflection and improvement in five key areas of inclusive development

Organisations applying for the Award receive access to training, peer support, and guidance from the awarding organisations and the wider community. The process is designed to be flexible and supportive, with providers able to demonstrate progress through interviews, presentations, or portfolios. Community feedback and on-site visits also form part of the assessment process.

Who can apply?

The Award is open to a wide range of organisations across Gloucestershire, including:

  • Voluntary groups and non-profit organisations
  • Local businesses delivering youth activities
  • Sports clubs, creative venues, and social groups
  • Specialist providers working with disabled young people

To be eligible, you must:

  • Offer provision for children and young people up to age 25 (including 18+)
  • Be based in Gloucestershire or on its borders, with Gloucestershire residents attending
  • Show that your activities are inclusive of both disabled and non-disabled participants, or demonstrate how you are connecting disabled participants with the wider community

More information can be found here.

What are the five areas of development?

The Award assesses progress across five key areas of your organisation’s operations. These areas focus on ensuring that inclusion is embedded in your culture, planning, delivery, communication, and partnerships.

Applicants are supported to reflect on their current practice, set meaningful goals, and record their progress through a structured action plan and checklist.

Benefits of achieving the award

Organisations that gain the Inclusive Activities Award benefit from:

  • Inclusion-focused training and support
  • Greater confidence in engaging disabled children and young people
  • Practical advice on removing barriers to participation
  • Access to tools and language that support inclusive communication
  • Public recognition and promotion of your inclusive provision
