Active Gloucestershire are delighted to announce the rollout of Street Tag in Gloucester, to help people increase their daily physical activity and develop an active lifestyle.

From Today (1 October 2024) Gloucester residents can take part in a city wide game, Street Tag.

On your own or in teams, walk, run, cycle or roll around the city to collect virtual tags to win points. Street Tag turns Gloucester into a virtual playground to help you be active everyday as you compete with other members of your community for rewards. Download our free app today, to get out, get tagging, get points and get prizes!

Street Tag is an innovative, app-based physical activity programme designed to motivate families and individuals to lead more active lives and explore and connect with their communities. By transforming the world around them into a virtual playground, users earn points by walking, running, cycling, scooting or rolling in their wheelchairs to collect tags strategically placed throughout their local community.

The project will help to turn the less physically active communities to be more active in the targeted areas by getting families to spend more time outdoors taking part in physical activities, driving community engagement, and maintaining positive mental health. The project will look at how to overcome the barriers that stop people from getting active, such as poor transport, safety, cost, and confidence. Street Tag will be used to engage and incentivise people and schools to walk, cycle and roll around Gloucester.

By joining in with the game, you can reduce the number of trips and journeys you do in your car as you look to increase the number of trips and distances travelled by bike, on foot or via wheelchair. The game encourages participants to make use of local leisure facilities and increase their levels of physical activity with the benefits of improved health and increased social interaction within the Gloucester area being some of the many benefits that this game can bring.

“We are excited to be forging partnerships that help families and communities get physically active in a fun, sustainable, and accessible way.” said Seun Oshinaike, Founder – Street Tag.

Local community residents, in a smaller group of 6 or less, will compete against other residents on the Community Leaderboard. Schools can join but will be competing in the ‘community leaderboard’ again in teams of up to 6. Points can be earned by scanning virtual tags around Gloucester, converting steps movement into Street Tag points, as well as joining online fitness classes to earn PEcodes which can also be converted to points.

The top teams at the end of each season will win fantastic prizes including gift vouchers that have been kindly provided and donated by local businesses and providers within Gloucester.

Tom Beasley, CEO at Active Gloucestershire said ‘’We’re excited about welcoming Street Tag for the first time to Gloucester and the opportunities it’s provided to work with partners and residents in the city. We’re sure that Street Tag will be another fun and engaging way to be active and you can even win some prizes!’’

Matt Williams, Project Lead at Active Gloucestershire said “We are really excited to be launching the game ‘Street Tag’ this October. This initiative is more than just a partnership; it’s a chance to weave stronger connections within our neighbourhood, create memorable experiences for families, residents and community groups and showcase the heart of what makes our local communities across Gloucester stand out. We are delighted by the number of local partners joining the game, be it as prize givers, local places of interest points or just them entering as a team, alongside the many local groups/ residents who have signed up already before the game even gets started. What’s not to like? Getting more active, connecting with others and getting to see the many great places of Gloucester. You even have a chance to win local prizes while you play. Go for it! I look forward to seeing Gloucester residents getting stuck in over the next 8 weeks!”
