Long Term Health Conditions
Living with a long-term health condition can make approaching movement and physical activity feel a bit daunting. But research shows us that those who are least active stand to benefit the most in terms of their health and happiness by moving more.
Finding the right form of activity for you is key. Whether it be building activity into your daily life, considering how you get around or something a little more structured like an exercise class, there are lots of ways to increase your activity levels. But there is often a perception or assumptions that people with long-term conditions can’t or shouldn’t be active. We want to work with communities and local health systems to challenge some of those assumptions and get more people with long-term health conditions moving more.
If you are a service or professional working with people living with long-term conditions, approaching the conversation can be tricky, but a major review of scientific evidence and expert clinical and patient consensus has found physical activity is safe for most people – even for people living with symptoms of multiple conditions.
