Active Schools
Our Active Schools work aims to provide children and young people with positive experiences of physical activity, to help build a foundation for an active life. We know that being active supports good physical and mental health, builds confidence and improves concentration and learning.
Through our Active Schools work we aim to support the organisations and individuals who work closely with Primary, Secondary, Special Educational Needs and Alternative Provision schools. Collaborating with these trusted partners, we support schools develop their capabilities, resilience and knowledge in providing physical activity opportunities for their students.
Our most exciting work see us working alongside young people, school staff and external organisations to build positive experiences that meet the needs of all children and young people.
‘Active Schools’ includes a number of core projects, including Creating Active Schools, Opening School Facilities and School Games. More information can be found on their pages.
Creating Active Schools
The Creating Active Schools framework (CAS) is a whole school approach, grounded in behaviour change theory, to improve and increase physical activity opportunities in schools.
CAS supports schools to build on their strengths while identifying areas of improvement that can be worked on step-by-step, helping schools to create impactful and sustainable change.
School Games
The School Games aims to make a positive and meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people through sport and physical activity. We want all children and young people to have access to positive experiences.
Activity on referral
Physical activity has a number of benefits, especially for our mental health. Find out how the Activity on Referral programme is making a difference to children and young people’s mental health in Gloucestershire.
Youth Voice
Youth Voice involves listening to young people and including them in decisions that affect their lives. By listening to what young people want and need, we can give them a choice and voice to be active in a way that works for them.
Opening School Facilities
Delivered over 3 years, the aim is to help schools to open their existing sport facilities, including school swimming pools, for a broader range of young people and to support the wider community by partnering with sporting organisations, who can help deliver activities in these settings, to create sustained change and increase activity levels
