  • Arlingham Circular

    Duration: ~6.2 miles (10 km); approx. 1 hr 30 min at a moderate pace

    Access: Flat riverside paths and country lanemostly accessible to ambulant walkers and suitable for pushchairs—not ideal for wheelchairs at all times due to field surfaces.

    Terrain: Flat riverside paths and country lanes

    Facilities: Start/finish at Red Lion pub (public toilets, café/refreshments), map board at trailhead

    Transport: Pay-and-display parking at canal visitor centre or village; no direct bus—best accessed via taxi or rail/bus to Gloucester then onward to Arlingham

    Duration: Approx. 3 to 3.5 hours (11 km / 7 miles loop)

    Access: Not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs – includes stiles, gates, and steep sections.

    Terrain: Varied – a mix of open common land, grassland, woodland paths, and hilly gradients

    Facilities: Free car park at Coaley Peak; no on-site toilets or cafés; nearest café and toilets at Tinkley Gate (near Woodchester Park)

    Transport: Free parking at Coaley Peak, access via public transport by train to Stroud, then local bus or taxi to Nympsfield

    Duration: ~1.6 km (1 mile); ~30–40 min loop

    Access: One easy-access path from car park suitable for wheelchairs and buggies; rest of common uneven, best for ambulant walkers.

    Terrain: Grassland plateau with some slopes.

    Facilities: Free car park; no toilets on-site; nearest cafés and shops in Stroud

    Transport: Park at Rodborough Common car park (GL5 5BN); Stroud station is ~1 mile walk; local buses to Stroud centre

  • Haresfield Beacon and Standish Woods

    Duration: 8km, 1-3 hours

    Access: Standish woods has designated pathways but Haresfield may not be suitable for wheelchairs

    Terrain: Woodland tracks and open grassland; steep in places

    Facilities: Occasional mobile coffee van (“Off Road Bean”), benches

    Transport: National Trust car park at Shortwood (pay and display), roadside parking, Bus from Stroud or Gloucester to ‘Bird in Hand’ stop

    Duration: Boathouse Trail loop – 5.6 km, 3 hours

    Access: Off-road scooter hire available, but not fully wheelchair-friendly throughout

    Terrain: Mixed woodland and lakeside surface; uneven and undulating.

    Facilities: Tinkley Gate café, accessible toilets, car parks (Tinkley Gate & Buckholt), National Trust shop, book corner, nature trails

    Transport: Pay & display car parks; blue badge parking; buses to Nailsworth with short walk from Stroud or Gloucester stations
