Event description

Many people have told us that they are reluctant to initiate lifestyle-related conversations with others, as they can find them awkward and don't want to appear judgemental or patronising.

Yet research has shown that support from friends, family and peers is pivotal, not only in kick-starting an individual’s behaviour change, but in helping to make these behaviours, habits. So it's important that we feel confident and comfortable enough to engage positively with our friends, family, community or colleagues and support them as they consider making changes to their lifestyle.

This training is designed to equip you with guidance and ideas that will enable you to start and develop conversations about lifestyle behaviours and support others to make positive and achievable lifestyle changes.

Change can start with a single positive conversation. Sign up to learn how your words can help to transform someone’s life.

Course content

The course focuses on lifestyle issues that can make significant improvements to an individual’s health and wellbeing. These include:

  • being physically active
  • improving mental health and wellbeing
  • eating healthily
  • drinking alcohol within the recommended limits
  • maintaining a healthy weight
  • stopping smoking.

This session will cover all of the areas listed above, with an emphasis on supporting and encouraging others to be physically active.

Developed by Healthy Lifestyles Gloucestershire in partnership with Active Gloucestershire, this training is part of the nationally recognised Making Every Contact Count (MECC) training. It has been made available through funding from Gloucestershire County Council and we can move.

About your session leader:
