Clinical Champions across the country are offering free physical activity training to groups of health care professionals.

Clinical Champions include GPs, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, physiotherapists and psychologists. Using a nationally developed training package, they can tailor it to meet your needs and the time you have available.

The training focuses on the evidence base for physical activity (both prevention and treatment of conditions) and how to provide advice and support to patients in clinical practice. So far over 22,000 healthcare professionals have been trained.

Some Active Partnerships have joined forces with their local clinical champions to provide sessions on local opportunities to be active as part of the training to ensure that health care professionals are aware of where they can signpost or refer patients to. This may include formal routes such as social prescribing or exercise referral alongside wider community delivery.

You can get infographics explaining the physical activity needed for all age groups, disabled adults, pregnant women and women after childbirth.

The Clinical Champions programme is due to run until 2022. Find out who the Clinical Champions are in your region and organise training by contacting physicalactivity@phe.gov.uk
